Global Witness condemns the killing of Ghanaian journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale

Global Witness condemns the shocking killing of Ahmed Hussein-Suale, a journalist who courageously investigated corruption in Ghana.

Hussein-Suale was reportedly shot dead by gunmen on motorbikes on Wednesday night.

“Investigative journalists are on the frontline of the fight against corruption. Ahmed Hussein-Suale’s brutal murder makes it clear just how dangerous that frontline remains in 2019,” said Ava Lee, Senior Anti-Corruption Campaigner at Global Witness.

“2018 saw a doubling in journalists murdered for their reporting - authorities must start taking these threats seriously, before more people lose their lives, just for doing their job.”

No one has been charged according to news accounts at the time of writing. Our thoughts are with Ahmed’s family.

In Solidarity.
