Up to 5 years in prison for criminals who use UK property market for money laundering

This morning, the UK Government’s Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy published its draft legislation aimed at forcing foreign companies owning UK properties to reveal their ultimate beneficial owners (see here).

Chido Dunn, Anti-Corruption Campaigner for Global Witness, says:

“This new legislation is a game-changer. The government has finally shown it is serious about stopping criminals and the corrupt from using UK property to launder dirty cash. We’re excited to find out who really owns our cities.”
