A new home for Global Witness

Welcome to our new website! We hope you like it.

If you’ve visited our site before, you probably know that this development is, ahem, somewhat overdue. We think it’s just the start. We are laying the foundation for some exciting digital work and powerful story-telling that will help us campaign better and hopefully break new ground in future.

We hope our new website will give you:

  • An easy way to search 20 years of Global Witness archive; cutting edge reports, in-depth briefings and hard-hitting news stories. Thousands of publications have come across, which are searchable by keyword and filter here.
  • A much clearer and more compelling way to enjoy our stories and know what you can do to help, whether it’s through video, data visualisation or campaign calls to action. Take a look at page on killings of environmental activists, on the recent TED prize, Japan’s buying of Malaysia’s timber, as examples.

Like all websites, there will be some teething problems and we’ll continue to build what the site can do - the launch is the start of the journey, not the destination, as they say.

Have a play around and let us know what you think! If you spot things that don’t work or could be improved, or have great ideas for how we can use digital in our campaigning, please do email them to [email protected] .

A few pointers on how to get around. To get into a specific campaign, go up to the top navigation and click “campaigns”. You’ll find a dropdown which provides thematic signposts to our key material.

If you’re interested in a specific country, you have two options. Our chunkier, live campaigns in specific countries are listed under “country campaigns” on the right of this menu. Other countries are then listed under the “countries” tab, at the bottom of that list or the right hand side of the top menu.

If you’re looking for a specific publication, the best place to look for it is via the search, which is on the top navigation and works like Google.  In the main search page you can refine your search by campaigns, countries and content types.

In each campaign or country page, you’ll see the first sentence of an overview. If you want to find out more about what we do Uganda or on conflict minerals, for example, click “Read more” in this intro section on the relevant page. If you just want to get into the material, the key stuff is accessible through the featured items on each page, or the campaign latest bar on the left hand column.

One thing we know is missing and are working on – web pages in languages other than English are not yet online. Please bear with us - they are on their way! Where specific translated documents do already exist, they should be available on the relevant report page.

That’s all for now. We’re very excited to have launched and we hope you like our new look. Feel free to share it with friends and networks if you do!
