From 10 to 21 May 2010, the fourteenth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA 14) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will take place in Nairobi, Kenya. The SBSTTA is an intergovernmental scientific advisory body that reports regularly to the Conference of the Parties of the CBD, by providing assessments of the status of biological diversity; and of measures taken to meet with the provisions of the Convention.
Global Witness, along with a number of other organisations working on REDD, has prepared a submission for consideration at SBSTTA 14. The Submission contains a set of recommendations relating to climate change and biodiversity, focusing in particular on the CBD strategic plan, the definition of "forests", and biofuels policy. The document also includes comments on a recent Expert Meeting Report that was held on the Isle of Vilm in preparation for SBSTTA-14 (the "Vilm Report"). Our comments are highlighted in the text alongside the original version of the report.
