19th September 2019, London - Commenting on the adopting of a resolution at the European Parliament today, calling on member states to do more to tackle money laundering, Naomi Hirst, Senior Campaigner at Global Witness, said:
"EU governments and the Commission need to put their money where their mouth is and do their utmost to stop the the corrupt and the criminal from using anonymously-owned companies to launder their ill-gotten gains. Member States have until January 2020 to unveil the real people behind the companies registered on their books and we expect strong and swift action from the Commission if that deadline is missed."
