Global Witness is growing…and we’re looking for a New Markets Consultant to help us shift the balance of power from polluters profiting most from the climate emergency to the people most adversely affected.

Help Global Witness grow our income by undertaking in-depth research to identify new European markets for our fundraising.

Global Witness invites consultants and/or freelancers to tender for this piece of in-depth market research, which will have a particular focus on scoping the funding sector in a select few jurisdictions in Northern Europe (excluding the UK). Initial research undertaken suggests potential target markets could include Scandinavia (Sweden), Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands – we are ideally looking for a consultant with in-depth knowledge of, or direct experience working in, the fundraising context in these European markets.

This piece of work will provide our team with a broad picture of the (climate) philanthropy space in Europe and where major gift opportunities lie, and will set the foundation for Global Witness’ ongoing fundraising efforts in Europe. The External Engagement team will utilise the findings to develop and begin the implementation of fundraising strategies for the new markets, evaluating the opportunities presented and developing detailed cultivation plans for relevant new prospects.

Deliverables

·         Research report on each relevant geography giving an overview of the (climate) philanthropy space, and the major players, in each jurisdiction. Findings should include:

o   The predominant forms of funding/ fundraising in each market;

o   The major players operating in each market (e.g., biggest donors to relevant causes);

o   The opportunities that can be seen for an organisation such as Global Witness.

·         Recommendations for where to prioritise and focus initial efforts – both in terms of which geographies to prioritise and which funding sectors seem most likely to succeed in each geography (e.g., Trusts and Foundations in X country, Major Donors in Y country).

Budget & Timeline

We estimate this project will take approx. 7-10 working days.  Indicative budget of up to £3,000, inclusive of VAT (if applicable). We would be looking for the successful candidate to start as soon as possible/ have immediate availability.
