About Global Witness

At Global Witness we believe the climate crisis is one-sided.  Big polluters profit from destruction and people are left to suffer the consequences.  We want to shift the balance of power from those profiting the most to those most adversely impacted.  Our goal to 2030 is to dismantle the power of polluters and build the power of people to achieve a fair and thriving world.

You can read about our work in our latest annual report challenging polluters, championing people’.

About the role

Global Witness benefits in so many ways from our Board members.  They support us to future-proof the organisation and decision making, they help us to navigate the external environment, and they bring new and innovative ideas as well as challenge our existing approaches in all areas of our work.

We’re looking to appoint three new Board (Non-Executive Directors) members to work with our Board, the Senior Leadership Team and staff to move us closer to our 2030 goal.

To help you decide whether this is the right Board role for you, we have produced detailed information about the role, time commitments, our governance and external engagement policy in the documents at the bottom of this page.

About you

We’re looking for our new Board members to have one or more of the following qualities:

·       Lived experience or working knowledge of the people and communities we work with

·       Ability to support fundraising, whether that’s communicating with donors about Global Witness’ work and impact, helping to identify prospective donors and opening the door with introductions, or cultivating donors

·       Experience supporting organisations to innovate and develop

·       Previous Board Experience isn’t essential, but a desire to develop knowledge about Board governance oversight is important and you will be provided with opportunities to gain this expertise.

Equal Opportunities Monitoring

Diversity of perspective on Boards is a must, not a nice to have.  Boards where the non-executive directors or trustees have different backgrounds and experience are more likely to encourage debate and make better decisions.  We are making some progress towards this but not enough.

So that we can build an accurate picture of who applies for positions at Global Witness we invite you to complete our equal opportunities monitoring form.  Completing this form is voluntary, the information is not shared with the recruitment panel and is only used for monitoring purposes.  The information is combined, and then individual responses are deleted.

Interview

Interviews will be held virtually from mid-November to end November.

If you have a disability and would prefer to apply in a different format or would like us to make any reasonable adjustments to enable you to apply or attend any interview, please let us know.
