Response from Delmas on suspect timber shipment is deliberately evasive

Global Witness and the Environmental Investigations Agency (EIA) have reiterated their call for French shipping company Delmas to cancel shipments of rosewood from Madagascar to China. In response to our open letter dated 15th March, Delmas CEO Jean-Francois Mahe claimed that the shipments in question are legal under Malagasy law. Our second open letter explains why this response does not bear scrutiny and again emphasises that Delmas activities are fuelling the illegal timber trade in Madagascar and threatening the country's last remaining rosewood.
